ArtCenter College of Design Visits Sequoyah with DesignMatters Workshop

We were pleased to welcome four students from Art Center's DesignMatters program to run a workshop on ideation that helped students synthesize their understanding of the SIP issues while also highlighting the gaps in their knowledge.

The Art Center presenters began with a short introduction where they spoke to our students about some of the projects they had previously worked on, including the Safe Niños project, which had them partner with a nonprofit pediatric treatment facility in Santiago, Chile, that cares for young burn survivors free of charge. In this project, the Art Center students were faced with the challenge to to reimagine the 6 acre treatment facility with human-centered environments that celebrate well-being for patients, their families and medical staff.

Our guests explained some of the hurdles they faced in conducting their research and offered suggestions on how our students might fine-tune their research methodologies. We then broke into groups based on our SIP 2.0 topic areas (Water, Life, People, Fun & Transit) and continued to brainstorm the people, interactions, people, environment, and services that were engaged in each specific topic area.

By the end of the workshop, each group presented out to the rest of the groups about their problem statement, their mission statement, and where they thought the most important areas for intervention were moving forward.
